This petition is to inform Marcellus Shale to leave Williamsport, PA and Lycoming County indefinitely.
You are causing a majority of landlords in the area to be greedy. Landlords, and most 'Scumlords' are charging upwards of $1,000 for 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and any type of apartment. Most of these rentals have NOTHING included! How is this livable with minimum wage at only $7.25 a hour? Most of us only make that much, and would be lucky to see a 40 hour week. Single mothers are striving to survive, mostly by living with family. Even families with two working parents can't live on their own anymore.
Generations of families all around the area are living together. The issue is not everyone works for Marcellus Shale, or any other Gas Companies in the area. They don't offer enough jobs to the citizens, and this is because a lot of workers are already coming from out-of-state to do the work. This is unfair, our landlords are holding up these people, some in furnished apartments, with the kind of rent they want it makes me feel like there is gold hidden inside.
With the Local Housing Authority closing the waiting list, there has been so many people starting to go homeless, or unable to find a place to live and turning to family. We can't live this way, and we, the people demand change.
- Either give us more jobs, through the gas company, male and female, to help support the citizens of the area you have come to get a expensive natural resource from. You're trucks and machinery clog out streets with extra traffic that we don't need, and none of us that DON'T work for you, notice know different in our way of life or living.
- Get out. It is that simple. If our landlords in the area weren't so greedy, we would have places to live. We can't have generations of families living in the same households that are only made to hold one family. It is cramped, we are falling apart emotionally, and you are part to blame.
It would be best this petition be taken seriously. If it's going to take homeless citizens lined up in front of the Mayor Campana's office to get the attention we need, that that's what it is going to come to.
