Name: Brad Trent on Apr 27, 2010Comments: For years, Maracas has thumbed their nose at the residents of 33 Greenwich Avenue. The noise of their sidewalk crowd has gotten ridiculous, not to mention the smoking and general bad behavior of their patrons. The management does nothing to control this behavior. And on top of everything else, the clogged grease traps from their kitchen continues to spill a putrid sludge into the garage of our building despite repeated requests from tenants to have them correct the problem. I ask that their sidewalk cafe permit NOT be renewed and the board of health do an inspection of the location to correct the grease trap issue as well!Flag

Name: Debra Un on Apr 28, 2010Comments: Please deny the renewal of this sidewalk cafe. It blocks pedestrians from walking on the street since the restaurant always stretches out the permitted space. Smokers from the restaurant are constantly drunk and loud and smoke outside preventing neighbors who live in the same building from sleeping!Flag

The noise the customers make is intolerable, especially for neighbors who live on the lower floors of 33 Greenwich Avenue. Jerome and Catherine Wile 33 Greenwich Avenue Apt 2D New York, NY 10014Flag

Name: Dr. Jennifer Scott on May 1, 2010Comments: I live on the third floor next to Maracas restaurant and have been constantly exposed to screaming, swearing, fighting, yelling and revving motorbikes - all associated with the patrons of Maracas' outside cafe. No effort is made to maintain a respectful neighborhood environment, and the restaurant apparently profits financially from encouraging an atmosphere of drunkeness and a "party-like" environment. This takes over the whole block of Greenwich Avenue every day and night. Additionally, patrons smoke directly under my windows, exposing me to second-hand smoke. I strongly support NOT renewing the license for the outdoor cafe space and will be following up on this is every possible way. Thank you for your consideration. Jennifer ScottFlag

Name: Dr. Shirley Budhos on May 1, 2010Comments: Please do not renew the restaurant's permit. Right now, as I write this, those sitting at outdoor tables are screaming and shouting. The clientele is raucous during the daytime, as well as late at night. I've complained many times, also when the staff loiters outdoors at 3 A.M. shouting & fighting, but they disregard our telephone calls and complaints. They have shown no consideration for those of us who live above the restaurant, and I am directly above them. Also, the staff and management take no responsibility to t urge patrons to lower their voices. Their music is so loud that my walls vibrate, and I live on the 3rd floor. Do not renew their permit for outdoor seating!Flag

Name: Mark Blasky on May 2, 2010Comments: I am a regular overnight visitor to 33 Greenwich Ave apts and am frequently awakened and disturbed late at night (past midnight or even past 2 am) by the noise from customers outside of Maracas restaurant. I would experience a great increase in quality of life if their sidewalk cafe permit was revoked.Flag

Name: Susanna Kremer on May 2, 2010Comments: As a resident of 33 Greenwich Avenue, I am constantly and consistently disturbed by the noise level at Maracas. My apartment faces Greenwich Avenue, which is where the outside part of the restaurant is, and there is always screaming and general disregard for the tenants of this building very late at night after I have gone to bed. In fact, I even keep my windows closed at night despite the warm weather to decrease the annoyance from the noise level. I would greatly appreciate it if this permit was revoked.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 3, 2010Comments: As a business owner on Greenwich Ave, who wishes to remain anonymous to avoid problems, I would urge the Community Board to reconsider the sidewalk cafe permit until Maracas can show a better effort to maintain control of their guests. Though the late night noise doesn't effect me as a business owner, I am tired of cleaning up countless cigarette butts, trash, and sometimes even vomit from outside of the store. Having my doorway blocked by people standing and smoking is a constant problem as well, and I often have ask people to move so customers can enter the store. This seems to be a larger problem during the "All you can drink" brunches, when large crowds tend to gather on the sidewalk, often intoxicated. Though the staff, and especially the management at Maracas is always professional and polite with any concerns (I dont believe this is their fault, Im sure they get just as frustrated with unruly cliental as we do), it just seems that this sidewalk cafe promotes the less positive aspects of the restaurant, and is bringing down the overall quality of life on the street. Unless changes are made (ending all you can drink specials, controlling crowd noise and the "engulfing" of the entire street), I cannot encourage the renewal of this permit, in an otherwise quiet and family friendly neighborhood. (This includes other bars' outdoor caves, such as Woogies, where a clam, quiet atmosphere is kept. And thats saying a lot for Philllies and Eagles fans)Flag

Name: Susan Wurtzel on May 11, 2010Comments: I have only been a resident of 33 Greenwich Ave for a short time, but I have noticed that Maracas has no respect for the people living right next door to them. The crowds are very loud and their noise extends well into the wee hours of the night on a regular basis. I once even heard someone singing Karaoke while sitting in my apartment. I would be very happy to see their sidewalk permit not be renewed. As long as the noise is kept confined to inside the restaurant, the residents (myself included) will be much happier.Flag

Name: Dawn Hollowell on May 14, 2010Comments: Maracas is a noisy nuisance for the area. During the weekends the people smoking and strolling outside the outdoor cafe are blocking the sidewalks and making it a street one wants to avoid. The restaurant itself has been unresponsive and disrespectful to complaints of residents above it. Please reject this requestFlag

Name: Margaret on May 16, 2010Comments: The owners of Maracas are not responsible, they don't manage the crowd, noise level, or trash that result from their customers. Due to the crowds that congregate outside, It is close to impossible to walk by in the evenings, we have to walk on the street which is dangerous. This is a residential block and a place like Maracas does not belong here.Flag

The owners are not responsible and have missed too many opportunities to make be considerate to their neighbors.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 19, 2010Comments: My business is often effected by intoxicated, belligerent and ill-behaved patrons who disrespect the residents and businesses whom pay significant rent to live and work in Greenwich Village. The sidewalk cafe outside of Maracas restaurant is not welcome on Greenwich Avenue and as someone who also lives in the Village and enjoys meals and drinks out of doors at other establishments in the Village, I can attest the clientele of Maracas are atypically unruly and have no regard for the businesses and residents of the neighborhood.Flag

I've lived in the village for 20 years and Maracas is by far the worst nuisance in the neighborhood and the outdoor cafe should be closed immediately.Flag
