Dear Superintendent Carstarphen,

We, a group of active and committed parents and students at Maplewood Elementary, are writing in regards to the principal you will select to lead our campus and community in the coming years.  We strongly advocate for Sandy Leibick to continue to lead our campus. As parents, we want you to know that we are very impressed with the active and inspired leadership we have witnessed since Mr. Leibick stepped in to the principal position in January.

We would like Mr. Leibick to continue in his position as principal of Maplewood for a variety of reasons.  First of all, he has proven himself to be a very effective problem solver.  The school had a number of longstanding challenges that were immediately addressed by Mr. Leibick.  While the following list is not exhaustive, these are some of the noticeable changes we, as parents, have witnessed and which have impressed us a great deal:

 * Improved safety of student drop off and pick up - teacher/principal present for safe and
 efficient flow of traffic
 *  Implemented student enrichment programs like the Maplewood Video Production
 program utilizing the closed circuit TV
 *  Tremendous support for getting the Dual Language Program at Maplewood
 *  Initiated improvements for ADA accessibility for our students and staff
 *  Dramatically improved the school climate
 *  His vibrant and direct communication has created connections school wide

Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, we support and trust Maplewood teachers and staff. The teachers and staff unanimously support the selection of Mr. Leibick. They have responded energetically to his positive, sensitive, can-do style.  The climate at the school today is amazing, which has not always been the case under past leadership. We trust our teachers to inspire our children and we trust them to know what leadership will most benefit the whole school.  We honor their educated and thoughtful choice for the principal position and we hope that you will too. 

Maplewood  is an amazing community. We are a family of teachers, staff, students, parents, neighbors and businesses.  Mr. Leibick's relational leadership style is creating cohesive connections that harness our individual energies to work collaboratively for the whole school. He inspires progressive and out of the box learning. He advocates for each and every child and he has the wisdom to see what holes need to be filled and how to prioritize them.  We see the results of his work daily and we are asking you to help us move seamlessly from the past six months of tremendous progress and hope, into a confident future. We are asking you to select Sandy Leibick to be our principal.

We thank you very much for your able leadership of AISD and are very glad you were able to visit our school before this very important decision is finalized.  We hope that you will weigh the wishes of our teachers very heavily in making your final decision. Happy and inspired teachers are the single most important factor in student success, and student success is what we are all looking for.
