We the concerned parents, community, and students are writing this petition in an effort to show our deep concern for the well being of the Manila High School Girls Basketball team. We would like to request the removal of Coach Ben Wolford from his coaching position for the Varsity and JV Girls Basketball teams with Manila High School for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. This is nothing personal against Coach Wolford we just feel the time has come for change. Coach Wolford has had 2 years to prove himself qualified to coach our team and has been unsuccessful. We believe that the team has the talent but our High School Girl's Basketball team is not getting the training and guidance from the current coach that is needed for the chance they deserve at a successful high school basketball career. Even more than having two unsuccessful seasons, there is a concern among the parents that the practice environment is negative and does not promote enrichment or cultivate self esteem in the players. A coach needs to be able to motivate and give constructive criticism without being degrading. No skills or fundamentals are being taught. Our strength in future seasons lies in the number of girls we will have playing next year and without proper coaching and training we have doubt the girls will be satisfied with the outcome of their future basketball seasons. A JV team was not a priority for Coach Wolford. We as parents feel we must look to the future of this team and feel this request to remove Coach Wolford is both necessary and needed for the girls. As parents and community members watching this season has been disheartening and painful to watch the girls lose continually and by such large numbers. The girls playing basketball also have felt the same disappointment as the season drug on.
