MANIFESTO AGAINST THE UNION BUSTING OF

 UNITED EMPLOYEES OF SHAKEY’S PIZZA-NAFLU-KMU

We, representing independent unions, labor federations, labor centers and concerned citizens condemn in strongest terms the union busting of United Employees of Shakey’s Pizza-NAFLU-KMU by Shakey’s Pizza Robinsons Bacolod/Island Pizza Incorporated led by its President Clarence Chua and the International Family Food Corporation.

The union busting came after our fellow workers at Shakey’s banded together to form a union that will fight for a just living wage, higher benefits, security of tenure and to claim their rightful share of the 85% of the service charge collected from the dine in customers’ orders. The management of Shakey’s Pizza  ever since its establishment in Robinsons Place Bacolod mall only releases 55% out of the 85% service charge and their salary rate is only P277 ($6.75) a day. This unfair and exploitative practice of the management existed for more than a decade now.

Despite the hundreds of thousands of pesos brought by customers patronizing Shakey’s Pizza every day, the management declared ”loses” as basis of their closure Shakey’s Robinsons Bacolod branch. This Shakey’s Pizza’s closure is not an exercise of management prerogative but a clear act of unfair labor practice and union busting to eradicate the formation of the workers’ union. Every Filipino worker and workers of the world must denounce these anti-union policies of Shakey’s Pizza.

Union busting is a blatant attack to our freedom of association and right to collectively bargain. Shakey’s Pizza is not only attacking the Filipino working-class but the workers of the world Shakey’s Pizza, a top grossing multi-national food chain only show its arrogance when it will decide to close on May 1 labor day. This is an insult to the workers of the world commemorating International Labor Day.

Therefore, we join the call of our brothers and sisters working at Shakey’s Pizza:

1.      Payment of the Php1, 119,305.02 ($27,300.12) money claims ordered by Department of Labor and Employment as payment for underpaid of service charges, 13th month pay and overtime pay for three (3) years;

2.      Stop union busting and to respect workers’ rights to union, collectively bargain and to strike;

3.      Stop union busting in the Philippines and worldwide.

Workers and people of the world unite; we have nothing to lose but our chains of slavery.
