| 54 | Christopher J Ciszek | I support both oil and alternative energy development. Now is not the time to pick one of two now is the time to develop both |

| 82 | sufyan ahmed | something must be done before things get out of control regarding energy. Unless we want to become extinct like dinosaurs, we need to find alternative sources of energy. |
| 83 | Candice | |
| 84 | Frank H. & Angela Deery | We desparately need any and all alternative energy, NOW!!! What is the matter with our polititions? Have they no foresight, other than their own deep pockets? Congress should have been working on our energy problems since 1974. |
| 85 | Jeremy LeFevre | I agree that this a problem that deserves immediate attentions and results, just like the Manhattan Project and the Apollo space missions.
Research to find the best alternative is vital and needs immediate attention. Once it is determined, we need to make it happen ASAP.
In my opinion, Bio-diesel is the best alternative for a quick solution. Some major benefits include:
1. Automobile manufacturers would barely have to change production practices to produce more diesel motors. The only retooling necessary would be for making diesels for cars instead of just trucks/SUV's. This would not hurt the auto industry significantly.
2. Bio-diesel offers better fuel efficiency generally.
3. Chemistry and the law of conservation of matter shows that CO2 produced by burning hydrocarbons must equal the exact amount of CO2 processed by the plants to form those hydrocarbons.
4. The only major problems to work on are refining the bio-diesel on a large scale (with filters) and finding a way of preventing the fuel from congealing, either by adding heat or adding a chemical agent to prevent congealing.
In the mean time, I propose that we do allow drilling in Alaska. Current drilling operations near the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge don't appear to be harming the wildlife. If I were a bear up there, I'd snuggle up to an oil pipeline and not have to eat nearly as often! I understand that an oil leak or other catastrophe could spell disaster for the wildlife, but I think we're almost out of options at this point. Oil companies have every incentive to prevent leaks in the pipeline anyway, since they would loose a lot of money for every hour a leak was running.
Let's get this handled. I'm sure there's no perfect solution, but not working toward any solution is the worst thing we could possibly do. Let's get to work! We can get this done! |
| 86 | Severino Puglisi | I think it is time to find a solution to the energy issue. One that that is safe for the people of this country or should I say safe for all living things and for the environment as well. |
