Currently in New South Wales a parliamentary education topic is only required during primary school education, in Year 6, and it is a very generalised unit of work. This leads to a big lack of knowledge about the parliamentary system and the process needed to make a law.
This petition aims to change that by including a compulsory unit of work to be included in the national curriculum, in Year 8 HSIE (Human Society and its Environment), which would educate young people and the parliamentary and legal systems as well as giving an insight into the political parties and systems of government.
