Draft Letter to the University RE: Access Agreement Dear Vice Chancellor We are a group of staff and students in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester. We are aware that the University is currently reviewing its access programme with the potential of charging students up to a maximum of £9000 fees a year. As responsible and concerned members of this University we are writing to request that we be consulted in this process. We feel that as a body that we have a great deal to contribute to this process, in assessing the future implications of particular approaches and how these might shape the University in the future. In order to make the fullest contribution we require information regarding the different factors in this decision making process. For instance, we need to understand what the proposed actions for access and fees are, what aspects of the University will be implicated in these plans, and what figures these are based on (both current and projected). We understand that the request is not as specific as it could be. This is a reflection of the lack of information and consultation underway, and as such, we are keen for a dialogue. We appreciate the University’s initiative to consult us on Monday 7th, but feel that without the said information, it is difficult for us to engage in a productive and informed discussion about the proposed changes to the University’s access programme. As such, we would be grateful if we could receive the information by Friday 11th March.
