This petition is to support Herbert Lehman College in trying to integrate class CED 105 as a mandatory class in students freshman year and/or into the CUNY curriculum.  The course examines individual & societal attitudes toward work, introduces concepts of the work ethic, and explores career options.

I took this class in hopes that it would help me narrow down exactly what I wanted to do in my career field & it exceeded my expectations. The course is easy to comprehend & would be very helpful to a freshman to not only figure out what direction they want to go in but if they have already chosen a career, it would help them to research exactly what they want to do within that field. This class gave access to a part of the school that I didn't even know existed but I believe it is essential in helping students make one of the most imporatnt decisions in their lives.

After taking 3 assessment test of your abilities, interest & values, the summary helps you to understand yourself better & gives you lists of occupations that fit those categories based on your answers. It also gives you deeper insight on those occupations such as salary, education options, even pros & cons so you can make a better decision. It also helps create, build or correct your resume and teaches you how to conduct yourself when going on a job interview.

It's not enough to just have workshops & have someone create your resume.  I believe this course instills confidence in students so they won't have to switch their major in the middle of the studies or later on in life. When students are confident, the community is brought up because we have better standards in our upcoming generations. My request is that you sign this petition in hopes to bring up our communities & empower the students with the knowledge needed to survive this ever changing economy & try to make a difference in our children's lives.
