As with the aftermath of Hurricane Irene last year, we once again find ourselves with a full week of days to make up, before winter has even arrived.

Many parents have spoken informally about how they would love to see those days made up during what is currently scheduled as February vacation, rather than at the end of the year. This could mean either skipping February vacation altogether, or shortening it, so that at least a few of these days can be made up earlier in the school year.

Obviously there are a lot of factors that have to be taken into consideration, but we hope that this option can at least be explored as a possibility, as it really does seem to be the popular choice for many KHA families.

The Compass School used a similar approach last year, and I think it would be wonderful if we could come together as a community at KHA to make a change that we feel would truly benefit the kids, by not making them spend an extra 5+ days in school at the end of June, when their brains and bodies are ready to be out enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.
