Name: Cassie on Jan 20, 2013Comments: The dynamic between these two characters has tremendous potential, whether that be in a romantic or platonic sense. Aside from introducing gay characters into the very heteronormative world of fairy tales, the notion of Emma and Regina having significant roles in each others lives makes sense in the context and history of the show for a number of reasons. Firstly, for an ex-Evil Queen and a Saviour, they have a remarkable amount of common ground. Both have felt alone for much of their lives and because of that share an intrinsic desire to be loved. They share a son which, if nothing else, makes them fixtures in each others lives so they can't exactly have a contemptuous relationship forever. At the same time you have the complementary aspect of their characters - the dark and the light, the old world and the new world - which only makes their dynamic more interesting to watch. Secondly, I think Emma is essential to Regina finding redemption. Given the attitudes of the Storybrooke people, Emma seems to be the only character that would be capable of bridging the gap between Regina and the town. More importantly, she seems to be the only character who would want to. Emma doesn't know Regina as the Evil Queen, she only knows as the mayor, and I think Regina would feel a certain freedom in that - having a person who sees her and doesn't immediately associate her with evilness. Of course, then there is the obvious appeal of watching an initally antagonistic relationship slowly unfold and develop into something real and honest. Friendships between strong, leading female characters that don't involve any sort of antagonism are not as common as a lot of us would like, and I think Regina and Emma have established a platform to develop just that. The actors also have a great, natural chemistry that I think would make the transition towards friendship and possibly more a believable one. Lastly, I think it's important to note that what a lot of viewers like myself want isn't a 'true love' story. Daniel was Regina's true love and according to fairy tale world, there isn't going to be one quite like it. What most of us are looking for is a real love story; something believable and slow and imperfect but at the same time something that fits. And really, what other character is going to take Regina on other than Emma?Flag

Emma is the perfect savior for Regina...at the very least make them BEST FRIENDS like Xena and Gabrielle and see where that relationship growws!Flag
