Name: Gloria Hicks on Jan 26, 2013Comments: Lowering the speed limit and putting in a light are steps must be taken and should have been taken long ago. I avoid 16 whenever possible, and I live in Star, so it would be more convenient to take 16 most of the time. I have been scared and had close calls just too many times, and I am an experienced, mature driver with an excellent driving record. I have driven in foreign countries, and this is as dangerous a road as any I have ever been on. Please act immediately for the safety of all on the road.Flag

Name: Neil Stover on Jan 27, 2013Comments: If IDT cannot justify a traffic light (which is the ideal solution) maybe they will consider stop signs where the Octogans perimeter has constantly flashing small lights which catch the drivers attention. These are very popular in Europe and in many U.S. locations.Flag

Name: Idadho on Jan 27, 2013Comments: With all regard to this family's tragic loss, Rather than have $250,000 stop lights everywhere, ITD and ACHD can install rumble strips starting 100 yards before the stop sign and red reflector "Botts Dots" in grooves cut into the pavement at the limit line. I suggested this to ACHD years ago when another youth driver was killed in a similar accident in Ada County. They can also install similar road side markers that help with depth perception to identify the distance to oncoming vehicles. These intersections are not dangerous by design. They are just not judgement proof. People can make poor judgements and pay the price. ITD had a sign that said "Crossing traffic does not stop." Maybe it should have said "60 mph crossing traffic does not stop." We could try to elaborate the risk. Young people feel invincible and fail to develop the judgement/perception skills to make safe judgements. We live in an urban/rural interface area. We can not afford to design every risk away. There are just too many of these rural roads crossing highways to fix them all.Flag

Name: Dennis Beckley on Jan 27, 2013Comments: We all know of a dangerous intersection that should have a stop light. However, too often the departments responsible for the saftey of these intersections are reactive, instead of proactive. I am 57 years old and I have seen more than once where I have thouhgt a dangerous intersection should have a stop light, the light gets installed not after many accidents and injurys, but after someone dies at the intersection. I as a tax payer would much rather pay in dollars, than to learn that instead, someone has paid with their life. My deepest sympathy for the family of Shauna Hill. Name: Sherry Ybarguen on Jan 27, 2013Comments: My son was in a similar accident when we lived in Missouri. I was worried about an intersection that had two fast double lanes of traffic, in which my children had to cross over twice everyday to get to school. No drugs or alcohol were involved, he just never saw the van, only the on coming semi truck. He pulled out and hit a white van in which a 50 year old man died. This was devastating for that mans family as well as my son who was a Senior at the time. Five students were in his car none received any injuries out of the six men in the van, one passed away and one went to the hospital. The speed limit was 55. It took several more deaths at that intersection before they put up a stop light. It is such a shame to have to lose lives before anything gets done. Our heart goes out to you and your family. We will pray for you. Take careFlag
