Hi, my name is Caroline. I live in Oregon and I graduated high school last January. I was in special ed classes the whole time I was in high school and I learned nothing. All we did was play games and stuff. It was like I was in Kindergarten again. We also got no homework and the only way to get homework was to disobey the teacher. Homework was our punishment. my in my freshmen year, they made all the kids in my class clean because they thought that was the only thing that we could do. My mom tried telling them make work harder for me. I even tried telling them myself, but nothing changed. I told my teacher I wanted to take algebra she let me do it once then she never let me do it again. She was doing everything that I knew already so I wanted something different. Same with reading, too easy. I took history and science with assistance, but that didn't help me much because she thought I would never use the assignments so she had me not do it. When I graduated I got a modified diploma. That definitely didn't help because they made a new law that anybody that gets a modified diploma can't get financial aid for college because the diploma doesn't count so they would have to get their GED first. How messed up is that? My friend is getting her GED for college even though she finished high school. She's frustrated like me cause I want to go to college too. A kid even said his dreams are crushed because the diploma doesn't count cause he was looking forward for college now he can't I just get frustrated cause my brain works differently and it takes me longer to learn stuff. Half of my brain wasn't developed. My school never gave me or kids like me a chance to learn new stuff cause of our disabilities. that's frustrating too. I want to give kids a chance to get an proper education and not have to get their GED when they already earned their diploma. I want to fight this. Please help. please share.
