Name: Patrick Elliott-Brennan on Aug 21, 2007Comments: Dear Sir/Ms, As a Linux-using father I had recently been contemplating purchasing MainActor. I had tried the trial version and was impressed. Imagine when I then found out that the application had been discontinued and therefore both unsupported and unavailable. Along with many other petitioners, I would ask that you agree to negotiate the release of the source code to an interested community. As you are no longer selling the product, I can only assume the money it made for the company was not significant enough to warrant continued attention and work. From a business perspective, I can understand that you would rather focus attention and effort on those business elements that provide a reasonable income versus work-hours and dollar investment. I am certain that many people, like myself, would be willing to contribute to a fund to purchase the program for the community at large. Though I agree that that this would be a minor amount of compensation relative to the obvious input over the years, a shelved application equally provides no income. Additionally, the free advertising and good will such a move generates would surely be of some benefit. I would, therefore, ask that you give serious attention to the requests being made by a large number of people, that you provide a means by which to allow the program to be provided to the public at large. Yours sincerely, Patrick Elliott-Brennan Sydney, AustraliaFlag

Name: Michael Willis on Aug 21, 2007Comments: Please release this product to the community! Software dies when it is shelved, but it can thrive if the community is allowed to nurture it. Look at the new life breathed into the old netscape source code. Just imagine what could be done with MainActor.Flag

Name: Grant Johnson on Aug 21, 2007Comments: Perhaps, done right, there is still some profit to be made from all of your good work, selling add ons (like codecs) or providing support while cutting costs by not having to pay for all of the coding. The current situation gets you nothing for all of your hard work. Maybe we can find a way that we can both get something out of this.Flag

Name: Andrew Pudzianowski, Ph.D. on Aug 21, 2007Comments: There is a definite need in the Linux community for a comprehensive video editing package. Conversely, the Linux community is not necessarily the best demographic for a commercial, profit-making business model in video editing software, both in terms of numbers and receptiveness to commercial models. Thus, it would make sense to open up a commercial package that is no longer being supported, and it would be a really nice thing to do, building good will for MainConcept.Flag
