As reported above, the LNP is expected to announce shortly that they will annul/repeal/extinguish Civil Unions/Partnerships for same-sex couples. We must stop them from repealing this important legislation. I need your support - by having your signature on this petition, it helps us talk to the Government and talk/fight on your behalf.
I know we all believe in Marriage Equality, but you can't deny that Civil Unions and Partnerships are a big step that provide important legal rights and recognition to couples. And with our Prime Minister & the Federal Opposition leader both opposed to marriage-equality, we must take our wins where we can.
Civil Partnerships/Unions have become legal and have already begun to take place between happy couples in Queensland, and all is well. The sky didn't fall, like some would have you believe.
The problem is this: the Liberal National Party (LNP) who now run Queensland by a huge margin, are completely opposed to the legal rights of same-sex couples, and wish to repeal important Civil Unions/Partnerships legislation that gives couples important legal rights.
ABC radio has reported that Mr Campbell Newman, at a forum held at Ashgrove Baptist Church, organised by Wendy Francis of the Australian Christian Lobby, made the following comments: “In relation to, of, Civil Unions/Gay Marriage: Our position is very clear – we voted against the bill the other day and we said that if we get into Government and we can - we will repeal it..." Mr Newman & his fellow party members have since repeated these comments about the LNP's desire and intention to repeal Civil Partnerships/Unions many times. The fact is - we know it is legally possible to repeal these Civil Unions. The LNP does too. And they've started the process, and are seeking legal advice to repeal Civil Unions/Partnerships legislation.
Unfortunately, MPs regularly tell me that they hear from lots of people who are opposed to Civil Partnerships, but they rarely hear from people who support it. Please take a moment to show your support.
The Australian Christian Lobby has a petition with over 100,000 signatures in opposition to Civil Unions/Partnerships and same-sex marriage.
My goal is to get at least 200,000 signatures in support of Civil Unions. We can do this!
We will not stand for families being separated.
Your signature on this petition means:

You support the right of any legal, adult couple to register for a Civil Union/Partnership.

I am currently coordinating with legal advocates to draft a formal submission for the Attorney General regarding the proposed repeal of civil union legislation. We are analyzing the latest parliamentary records to identify the specific legislative mechanisms they plan to use for this annulment.

This is just plain embarrassing for our state. Cant believe we are going backwards like this in 2012.
LEAVE THESE PEOPLE ALONE. Why do they even care what other people do with their lives? total waste of time.
my best friend and her partner are devastated. they worked so hard to get things set up legally and now this. cruel.
just another example of the lnp being out of touch with real people. stop playing politics with peoples families.
