Maidstone Borough Council has decided to close public conveniences at the shopping parades in both Park Wood and Northumberland Road, Shepway. It is also planning to close public conveniences in rural areas. Surely we are already paying for their maintenance in our council tax There has been no public consultation about these closures and no alternative arrangements have been made. Please vote here to keep our public toilets open! We need them. Thank you.

Gill Annan, United Kingdom5 years ago Comments: It is so expensive to close the toilets. The savings will be minimal in comparison to other things. Surely public toilets are necessary for us all. Sadly Maidstone is not alone in this easy option
Linda Weeks, United Kingdom5 years ago Comments: Sometimes coach trips are run from Park Wood bus stop, and the coaches do not always have toilets on board and do not always stop en route. These toilets are a boon to anyone using the coaches both before departure and on return. There was a suggestion that local businesses might be persuaded to let desperate customers use their staff toilets. However, sometimes coaches return after most local shops are closed, so even if arrangements were made for people to use shop premises during the daytime, where would passengers go when arriving back late at night after a long journey Do the late night food shops really want a coachload of passengers trooping through their premises to queue up to use their staff toilet Would the Food Standards Agency even permit such use Or are the Council suggesting that those who have children, are pregnant, disabled, have prostate trouble etc should just stay at home and not go on coach trips any more
