We, the parents of Magnolia's 8th grade class are petitioning for a modification to the Magnolia Dress Code for two specific occasions, the graduation ceremony and the graduation dance. While we parents agree that the new dress code for the school year 2012-13 has had a positive affect for our children this year, we feel it is time to modify this dress code for these two special occasions and let our daughters dress like the young ladies they are becoming with their graduation to high school and still maintain proper decorum. It is next to impossible for our young ladies to find a dress befitting this special occasion in their lives that meets the current dress code. Garment manufacturers simply don't have them hanging on the racks. The changes we request are these: From: Skirts and dresses must measure no more than two inches above the kneecap with or without leggings or tights. To: Skirts and dresses must measure no higher than the bottom of the students extended fingertips with or without leggings or tights. From: Tank tops, muscle shirts, halter tops, strapless tops, spaghetti straps, bareback tops, crop tops, and altered shirts with rubber bands are prohibited. To: Muscle shirts, halter tops, strapless tops, crop tops and altered shirts with rubber bands are prohibited. Bare backs below the shoulder blades are permitted. Tank tops straps one quarter inch and wider are permitted. Spaghetti straps with a cover such as a sweater are permitted, but cover must remain in place at all times. From: Shoes with wheels, high heels, slippers and platform shoes are not permitted. To: Shoes with wheels, high heels above 3 and a half inches, slippers and platform shoes are not permitted. Please join me in requesting that our school authorities make these simple changes for these two special occasions. Thank-you, Tim Brennan
