In 1995 Mattie L. Palmore was appointed as the first African American female Magistrate of Fairfax County, VA. During her tenure, she stood for equality and justice for all, offering individuals in the county a fair hearing as well as sound advice to assist them with making life changes. She has never received any bad evaluations from her supervisors, and in fact everyone speaks very highly of her. Unfortunately, great people of this stature are not immune to the politics and possible discrimination associated with profiling individuals to see who is an easy candidate for dismissal. The Virginia Assemble, recently introduce a bill, that they thought would help enhance the education of all the current magistrates in the state. This would be implemented by giving a series of test to measure the aptitude of the magistrate (Jim Crow). It is believed that only magistrates age 50 and older were targeted, in addition, each time the test was not passed the questions changed. Subsequently, if the test was not passed on the third occasion, the magistrate would be terminated. Based on the 15 years of service Mattie L. Palmore deserves better than this. Please sign this petition, in order that we might forward it to the Governor of Virginia as well as the Board of Magistrates in an effort to reverse this travesty that was enacted upon this wonderful woman.
