Name: Philip G Taylor on Aug 29, 2010Comments: NZTA (NZ Transport Authority) assurances that they have taken motorcyclists' concerns seriously can not be given any credence as they state that international research shows wire rope median barriers were no more dangerous to motorcyclists than other types. If this is the case why have Norway banned them altogether? Belgium is ripping a section out every year until they're all gone, Victoria is looking at banning them, The Netherlands has banned them and in France they all have to be filled in with a plastic tube called "Moto-tub"Flag

Name: Bazza on Aug 31, 2010Comments: The callous response by nzta shows the entrenched attitudes (AKA corporate corruption) we are fighting. When our 'lobbying budget' exceeds the construction industry, maybe we will be taken notice of by politicians. Four motorcycles take up the space of one car, one bus can take fifty cars off the road at rush hours. Motorcycles are part of the solution.Flag

Name: James Hardy on Nov 14, 2010Comments: The new road by-passing Mapua to Motueka has just been opened, to fanfare of course about how wonderful it is. In fact the road is dangerous, with extensive usage of wire rope barriers. More generally: The obsession with 100kph and the lack of any awareness of the positive effects of good driver training, inadequate new driver testing, poor examination of older vehicles and inattention to safe run off on the roads is eye poppingly negligent on the part of the government. Lets see a better structured driving test, better testing of older vehicles, attention paid to grit left on roads by construction crews and better designed road edging. I could show you innumerable death traps of deep ditching for example, ready to swallow a motorbike whole!Flag
