| 1 | Ole Ngais Jeff | info@olengaisjeff.com | The long forgotten Mukogodo Maasai, still struggle to survive oppression of all kinds. They have learnt to fear authority and those in authority. The descendants of the fearless Maasai clan, Laikpiak, were incredibly turned into creeps and people without personal opinion on all matters pertaining their survival. While the future of the Laikipiak Maasai in Mukogodo is still in the hands of the politicians and decision makers, the sun baked warriors ability to decide for their future is now being put into test.
The people of Mukogodo division demands;
Food for a population of about 30 000 Mukogodo Maasai. Our children and adult people are starving while food stuff is rotting in other parts of the country. What a shame!
Clean water both for people and animals. A diesel driven generator,bore holes, 50 bore hole water points, (machine, drilling and all material costs about 300 000shillings).
Electricity. A simple extension from either Timau or Nanyuki to Il polei, Kimanjo and Dol dol. There is also solar energy. The sun is shinning 365 days a year on 0 degrees equator. Money generated from revenues (from Maasai Mara, laikipia wildlife and cultural tourist income should be pumped to helping the Maasai people and not Nairobi city. Kenya received 2 million tourist every year.
Development of community solar centres would be a breakthrough for the marginalized Maasai people. Prolific wildlife and white-sand beaches bring about 780,000 foreign visitors to Kenya annually. Tourism generates an estimated US$500 million per year in hard currency earnings, making this sector the country's single largest source of foreign exchange. This money well managed would make Kenya the fastest growing economy in Africa.
Learning facilities, schools, libraries and adult education centres as well as recreation facilities.
And medical facilities.
Employment for Mukogodo youth and eradication of MIRAA trafficking. Khat contains stimulant chemicals similar to but much weaker than amphetamines. These chemicals - primarily the alkaloids cathine and cathinone - affect the central nervous system, potentially increasing excitement, mental alertness and a feeling of happiness. However, depression and psychoses may also be associated with the use of khat. Additionally, it may cause physical or psychological dependence or both. Many young men and women are ruined by this drug and it should be eradicated before it engalves the entire society.
With this demands fulfilled, the Maasai people of Mukogodo will for the first time feel like they are Kenyans in Kenya. You will be guaranteed of our support for us long as you stay in power. The land issue will be left to the law lords for it is too wide and fragile. |
