I myself have seen how unsafe this stretch of M-40 is and the potential for serious accidents for traffic exiting from the Tulip City Truck Stop. Something needs to be done NOW!Flag

Name: James Bailey on Jan 19, 2007Comments: although this area does need to be addressed , like any hazardous situation, and in due respect for the tragic consequence and loss of life of this recent incident, no matter what precautions are taken, accidents will occur due to individual indiscretions regarding their own dangerous driving behavior. although the final police report is yet to be released, i can't help but conclude that mr. boevie was possibly traveling at what i would consider an excessive rate of speed for conditions at the time,as the collision results would indicate. a stoplight is only good if people obey it. the 31 bypass around holland is a good example.Flag

Name: Mary Cutler on Jan 19, 2007Comments: A stop light is a great idea for an immediate fix, but I think that with the volume of trucks that utilize the services of the truckstop offers, they should have their own on/off ramps to the highway so we know for sure that fatal accidents like this will NEVER happen again. Every life lost, could easily be avoided!Flag

Name: Michele Hildenbrand on Jan 19, 2007Comments: M-40 has always been an extremely busy road. The entire section from I-196 through Hamilton is heavily traveled and is in need of improvement. I think having a stop light at the Tulip City truck Stop would be very beneficial. It is a miracle there haven't been any other serious accidents there.Flag

Name: Kirt Koeller on Jan 19, 2007Comments: I would belive that lowering the speed would be cheaper and would give better results since the light for the highway makes for very long waits for north and south bound traffic on M40 another light at the truck stop would make back ups worse. We should just slow it down to 45 MPH.Flag

Name: Judith A. Jennings on Jan 19, 2007Comments: I have had to stop as the big trucks do pull out in front of ongoing traffic. When you are going 55 on dry pavement it is hard and I can only imagine what it would be like on slipery pavement. Isn't one death too many and three deaths enough! Let's work together for a change. Maybe a light installed that would be tripped by the trucks when they want to come out like we have at some corners for people to cross the street.Flag

Name: Chris Hileski on Jan 19, 2007Comments: Sheryce, Thank you so much for working so hard. Emma, Zack, Spencer, and Jordon are my cousins. It is a blessing to see strangers step up and make changes. About a month ago the same thing happend to me. I was on M-40 when a truck pulled out in front of me, I slammed on the breaks but the roads were icy. I was heading towards the middle of his trailer but was able to turn and ramp over the curb and land in the ditch. The driver continued on his way and got onto 196. I dont even know if he saw me. I wish that I would have stepped up and tried to do something about it. Maybe then they would still be here. Thank you once again.Flag
