Name: Heather Fleming on Aug 24, 2006Comments: I work at MGH and live near Harvard Square. I rely on the M2 shuttle to take me to research and teaching events at the Longwood campus at the beginning or the end of the day. There are many events I would likely not attend if I were required to pay for this transportation service. Please keep the shuttle free for postdoctoral fellows!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 24, 2006Comments: Harvard is so cheap and stingy... We work hard to publish papers using their name helping them make a big name in the scientific world we just want a free ride and they reject us...we researchers publish papers being proud to have Harvard as the Institute. We made them famous for free and they are so stingy that they cannot even give us a free ride even when the bus is more than half empty. Now I am ashamed of them...they were Nazis before forbidding Jewish students entering the Universty about 70 years ago. And now they do this to the innocent hard working scholars. No wonder God made them not the number 1 University this year. Shame on them.Flag

Name: Joseph Wade on Aug 24, 2006Comments: The M2 shuttle is essential for safe, efficient travel between Cambridge and LMA. Without it employees will be forced to wait substantially longer times for MBTA buses or trains, especially after dark when safety is an issue, particularly in the area around LMA. Also, charging employees to ride the M2 will strongly discourage interactions between staff at LMA and locations in Cambridge. The price would be cost prohibitive. In light of the multi-billion dollar endowment that Harvard has it is outrageous to charge for this essential service. Additionally, I anticipate that charging for the M2 shuttle (likely to be around 2 dollars per ride) will reduce ridership hugely, probably by at least 80%. This will effectively make the service obsolete. I, for one, cannot afford such a high cost. Finally, many LMA employees, myself included, have chosen to live in Cambridge largely because of this excellent bus service.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Aug 24, 2006Comments: I can otunderstand why Harvard would penalize its employees this way. I believe that Boston is expensive enough and does not need additionalcost added to it. Maybe the 18 billion dollar endowment could be used to support the hard working postdoctoral fellows, technicians, or administrative staff that help that money keep coming in.Flag

Name: Jeremy Zucker on Aug 24, 2006Comments: The M2 shuttle is the form of public transportation that reliably and efficiently connects Harvard square and Longwood. To lose access to that route would be a travesty for the hundreds of researchers who collaborate, teach, and take classes on both sides of the river. This is not an optional serviceFlag
