Name: Angus Langlands on Mar 21, 2011Comments: There is now a well known and increasing "culture of disbelief", amongst government officials and our judiciary, in connection with the likely fate which awaits those who are refused asylum in the UK and are subsequently repatriated. This is a disgrace, a black stain on the good name of our country and a blatant abrogation of our moral responsibilities. We claim to be a civilised country, but we must show this by our actions.Flag

Name: Rachel Hockey on Mar 21, 2011Comments: Never give up hope! The Mansour family in Manchester spent 6 hours on the tarmac at Gatwick waiting to be deported and eventually after a local campaign were given leave to remain. Keep fighting and getting as many to sign the peition!Flag

Name: Julie Wilkinson on Mar 21, 2011Comments: I am aware of Lydia's work as a playwright, as a writer and University Lecturer in English. I believe that Lydia would be under direct threat of imprisonment and torture in Cameroon as a result of her increasing profile as a writer and a critic of the regime. The couple arrived here genuinely seeking asylum after suffering inhumane and violent treatment as a result of their legitimate political activity. Are we no longer extending the right of asylum to refugees in this country?Flag

Name: Professor David Michael Waller on Mar 21, 2011Comments: I am supporting this petition on the understanding that it is a case where previous political activity in a non-UK territory would render the returnee open to persecution - that is, of political asylum. I do not offer blanket support to all cases of objection to the repatriation of immigrants.Flag
