Everyday the media influences by spreading poisons through the airwaves that affect our community and our youth. Z107.9 (#1 Hip Hop and R&B station) continually transmits music that promotes substance abuse, sex and promiscuity, violence and destruction. In order to avoid fines from The Federal Communication Commission (FCC), regulators of "free-to-air" broadcasting, radio stations censor the profanity.  However, even though the "f-word" may be bleeped or garbled, it does not distort the context of these explicit lyrics.  There is absolutely no discretion for what these songs illustrate, or any regard for what time of day they are played and our impressionable youth listen to it constantly. What kind of impact does this music have on our children, and how can the influence of this music benefit them as they attempt to grow into responsible adults in society? No one wants to take responsibility at the early stages of this destruction but instead the unfortunate end results.  Someone is ready to build more prisons, dig more graves and lay to rest these children that get caught up in the media's glorification of deceit and lies. Most songs that are played on the radio contain so much profanity and vulgarity you only hear every other word of what the artist is trying to say. We allow this nonsense to be injected into the veins and souls of our children on a daily basis. They can sing every word and verse verbatim but can't even tie their shoes, read or write, fill out an application, pass an OGT (Ohio Graduation Test), perform simple math, etc. The exploitation of our youth to build the media empires of many greedy men and women is unfortunate and reprehensible. So it is up to you and I to take a stand and "change the station" until Z107.9 acknowledges their accountability for the harm inflicted upon our children with the music that is played on their station.  Let's influence them to commit to play more positive music that will build up the lives of our youth not destroy them! Thank you!  This petition is vital to us and our children please pass this on to everyone you know.  *Credit is given to Melissa McAlpine and Joan Curran Darkortey for information included in this petition.
