As the surface of choice, paving this section of the Luce Line State Trail would make the trail a truly multi-use trail and enable more people to use and enjoy one of the original state trails.  Since we are less than an hour from the west metro and St. Cloud areas the trail would become a destination for regional users and other visitors.  As a result paving the trail would provide valuable and needed economic benefits for cities along the trail and the county, offer greater recreational and healthy lifestyle opportunities for area residents and visitor, provide additional family opportunities, get people outside more connecting with nature and provide safe alternative connections between the cities.  Because of these broad benefits the project has the support of area cities, counties, economic development organizations, chamber of commerces, health care organizations, local newspapers, and statewide bicycle and parks and trails organizations.

It is important to understand that this plan does not restrict existing uses.  Rather it is intended to increase use and enjoyment of the trail.  To accommodate existing users snowmobiling with metal traction devices would be allowed, a parallel trail would be provided for horseback riding and trail crossings would be built to accommodate farm implements.

In the future links to the Dakota Trail and Greenleaf State Recreation Area are envisioned and would provide an amazing recreational network for the region and state.  With the bridge replacements completed in 2011 this project is essentially “ready to go”.  Paving the trail would allow the Luce Line’s vision and potential to finally become a reality.   It’s time to finish it!
