The undersigned request the Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. (LRC) to form a committee to update and change the American Kennel Club (AKC) standard for the Labrador Retriever. As the global economy expands and the popularity of the Labrador Retriever reaches to more countries, the differences between the AKC breed standard and that used in most other countries has become a concern for breeders. If the breed is to remain uniform and breeders encouraged to select for the best overall quality, discrepancies between the AKC standard and those used by other countries must be minimized. Although the breed has enjoyed nearly 80 years of development under the auspices of the LRC, the current breed standard with numerous disqualifications and contradictions no longer serves the best interest of the overall breed, breeders or members. We request that the standard be revised to bring it more in line with the standards used by the country of origin and other organizations worldwide. Only members of the LRC may sign this petition to the board of directors.
