Dear Payment Services Provider, It is beyond genuine dispute that, in America, we are shifting towards an increasingly 'cash-less' society and it is, in large part, your services (debit card servicing, credit card processing, etc.) that have facilitated this shift. We, as your customers and potential customers, benefit greatly from the efficiency and ease of payment that these services provide. However, there is at least one group that has been quietly disadvantaged from this shift in our financial practices : the homeless and others that rely on pan-handling as a primary source of income. When 'cash' was more prevalent, providing income to this population was much more convenient and common, as more people were in the habit of constantly carrying cash (as opposed to a debit card or credit card). Today, it is simply more convenient to carry a card and, for the sake of our convenience, their income is reduced and their lives are negatively impacted. This is not your fault, or ours. And, we want to help (we still can), we're just lazy - so, will you give us a hand? Many retailers that use your services pay a small fee in order to process our payments (we experience this as a store clerk asking us to pay and additional $0.50 for a debit card transaction, or a 'minimum purchase' requirement before being allowed to use our cards, etc). Presently, these fees, in large part, are passed back to your customers - those that benefit from the 'cash-less' society - in the form of your 'rewards' program that awards 'cash back', 'points', 'miles' or discounts from certain retailers. It is our suggestion to you that, it is not those that benefit from the new cashless system that should be rewarded from the fees and profits it generates, rather it is those that have been negatively impacted as a result that ought to be compensated. Therefore, we offer you the following 'deal'. If, in addition to providing your present 'rewards' program , you also provide an option to your customers that fees paid by retailers to use your processing services, be instead provided to a homeless aid center, you will have our business. Thank you for your consideration, Sincerely, the undersigned Lazy People for Low-Income People.
