The current speed limit of 45mph on Gayton Road has contributed to several severe automobile accidents and numerous near-accidents over the past few years. Two people died in the summer of 2010 as a result of dangerous accidents on Gayton Road at Tunbridge Road. Speed was definitely a factor in both of these fatalities. Many residents of the Sussex, Whitaker Woods, and Kingsley subdivisions choose alternate exits from their neighborhoods because they feel so unsafe attempting to exit onto Gayton Road from their neighborhoods. Neighbors living on Gayton Road do not allow their children to play in the front yards of their homes because of the extreme safety hazard. Gayton Road contains several significant curves and slope changes between Ryandale Road and Pump Road. These curves and slopes combined with a 45mph speed limit make entering Gayton Road very dangerous particularly at busy time periods. The completion of John Rolfe Parkway just to the west of Ryandale Road and intersecting with Gayton Road can only increase traffic congestion on Gayton Road. Therefore, we the undersigned, request that the speed limit be lowered to 35mph on Gayton Road between Ryandale Road and Pump Road in Henrico County, Virginia.
