A majority of parents know that their underage children have had some form of alcohol at least once. It is widely known throughout all academic institutions that students on college campuses indulge in reckless, hazardous drinking, in unsafe and unregulated places such as raves, frat parties, dorm parties, etc. as they get a "kick" out of indulging in illegal activities. This is highly unsafe and has a negative impact on both the young adults' health, and ability to enjoy in a safe and socially acceptable, regulated manner. Far too many ill incidents occur annually, and a majority could have been prevented if the young adults were allowed to drink in the safety of licensed bar, than in an attic of someone's house. Use the medium of education to remind the youth as to not drink and drive.

Its is hypocritical to say that one can legally own a gun; a weapon that is very much capable of taking one's life, however he or she cannot drink alcohol. Soldiers who fight to save this country can take bullets for their country, but not enjoy a sip of beer. A young adult cannot drink at his or her own wedding as he/she may be underage. You can legally buy sexually explicit content such as pornography, and visit strip clubs, but not be allowed to sip a cocktail.

Keeping anunnecessarilyhigh drinking age does not prevent drunk driving, or reckless (but sober) driving for that matter. It is a sense of social and personal responsibility, reinforced by proper education that prevents road accidents. Young adults should be exposed to alcohol at a younger age, in order to prevent them from losing their minds (and their sense ofresponsibility)by over consuming the "forbidden fruit" whenever they get a chance. After all, it would be much safer for young adults to drink in the safety of a legal establishment in controlled quantities, rather than drinking a week's worth of alcohol in one sitting in some shabby party in someone's empty house, where no one can supervise them.

The Amethyst Initiative understands this (a body of various university presidents who signed a pledge, asking for discussion over reducing the legal age, as 21 isn't working). These are credible people who haveexperienced thehazardous illegal binge drinking culture that has sprouted in every college and university in America. The people of this country understand too. Please, open your eyes and see that it is time for change. Sign this petition and help make the government realise this as well, and repeal this ill-designed archaic law that is creating this menace in this country.
