Whether you Love Football or Hate Football this petition is for you. I have to confess I’m a hater, but I acknowledge and respect anyone’s right to enjoy their favourite sport, as long as they acknowledge and respect my right not to enjoy it. As a hater I often feel like I can’t escape from Football, all over the Media and Television especially. We start with the Domestic Leagues (Premiership/SPL etc.) then there is the European Club Competitions (Champions League/Europa League) this year we are also cursed (or blessed) with Euro 2012 and Olympic Football. Things will return to normal next year but in 2014 we will have the Fifa World Cup to endure (or enjoy). The BBC is a government funded network and I think a good one, since going digital the service has really expanded; with additional TV channels and of course the Red Button. I would like the BBC to help make life better for Football Lovers and Haters alike, I am petitioning to get the BBC to start it’s own Sports Channel, they could then remove all Sports Coverage from it’s Non Sports Channels. Clearly Football would comprise over half the coverage, which would make fans happy. They could have concurrent events playing on the Red Button as they currently do (see their excellent Wimbledon Coverage to see what I mean). If the BBC were to do this then I think ITV would have to follow suit to remain competitive. But this would also serve to free up airtime on the BBC’s mainstream channels so that Non-fans like me could escape the tedium of yet another Football Tournament. Maybe we could catch up on re-runs of Family Guy? I don’t see a downside here, I really don’t. Lovers will get more Football (and other sports) and Haters will get no Football. Everybody Wins? Given that the BBC (quite rightly) currently funds a Scots Gaelic Service on its digital network I’m sure they could justify a Sports Channel. I’m almost certain there are more Football fans than Gaelic Speakers paying for TV Licenses after all?
