Whereas DSL service has been made available to virtually every home with a telephone connection in East Jefferson County since 2003;

Whereas we are told an administrative error early on resulted in the omission of service to at least forty telephone subscribers in a region of S. Discovery Road no more than three miles from the City of Port Townsend;

Whereas we the residents of that region, referring to ourselves as the “Lost Forty,” but including also those who subsequently have built and settled in the same region, have for as long as twelve years endured painfully slow dialup speeds or data-limited, unreliable satellite services, and as a result, have seen our property values decline relative to the general area;

Whereas a growing number of work-at-home professionals depend on high speed Internet to do their jobs, as well as many children and college students to complete their assignments, and in particular those young students in the Port Townsend School District who simply cannot complete their homework assignments because they can’t find transportation home (there are no late buses) if they stay after school to use the school’s high speed equipment;

Therefore we The Lost Forty do respectfully petition CenturyLink, as well as any and all appropriate governing authorities, to meet with us or our representatives to develop a plan for the most rapid and efficacious installation of high speed DSL Internet service to our area.
