Comments: Backyard chickens are a wonderful way to improve the health of our community. Keeping chickens helps reduce the carbon footprint of eggs eaten in our community and produces a superior quality food.

Comments: Please allow backyard hens in Longmont. Hens are harmless animals, and the misconceptions about them are easily cleared up with a few minutes of research on the internet. 3 hens produce about as much waste as a housecat. Longmont allows residents to keep as many as six dogs. it would take dozens of chickens to produce an similar amount of waste, and hundreds to produce a similar amount of noise.

Comments: I recently relocated to Longmont from Seattle, WA where we had three backyard hens. They were a wonderful asset to the neighborhood - we were able to share fresh eggs with our neighbors and never had any issues with the hens bothering anyone. It is great to have the opportunity to create local, sustainable food for your family and friends -- and the chickens even help with yard maintenance by fertilizing & eating dandelions! :) I would love to support the movement to allow backyard chickens in Longmont.
