Varsity is back on because we refused to let the Union sell us out. They finally backed down and realized they work for the students. Stay alert and make sure they follow through.

To sign the petition please state your name and department in the name section. etc John Smith, Physics. UCLU members only.

The current state of affairs for Varsity 2013 is a mess and this is because of a number of different views/agendas that are being held/pushed by the Union and I am at a loss to understand these views. If you feel you want to discuss these views I suggest you talk to Abdul-Ahad Akbari the Student activities officer. The motion which I am proposing to be voted on by a student referendum is to show our elected activities officer that the Varsity is essential to the student body.

The motion below is what will be put to referendum:

Motion to the UCL Union members: The London Varsity 2013 will take place and cancellation is not acceptable and unrepresentative of UCLU members' desires.
Proposer: Elliot Millar-Mills, MAPS
Seconder: Nadir Basma, MAPS

This Union notes:
1. The London Varsity was hosted last year and over 2500 students attended.
2.There was minority of the crowd causing disorder with mainly participants from KCL.

3.The current state of affairs will see The Men's 2013 Varsity played at Berrylands playing grounds on Wednesday afternoon as a BUCS match. Women's game cancelled.

This Union believes:
1. The London Varsity and Summer ball are the two main social events of the year.

2. The London Varsity is part of the fabric of the UCLU life and essential for the student body moral and unity. It is participated in by a diverse and broad cross-section of the UCLU and student body.

3.Crowd trouble is not a suitable excuse for cancelling a major event and can be planned for.

4.A suitable alternative venue can be found to replace the Twickenham stoop venue.

5.If a student activities officer fails to organise a major UCLU event he should resign his post as he has failed his student body.

This Union resolves:
1.To host the London Varsity 2013 in the second term of the 2012-2013 academic year.

2.To overturn any agreement/decisions not to host the London Varsity by any UCLU representatives in any meetings/committees whether they be internal or external with other companies/institutions/unions.

This Union mandates:
1.That Abdul-Ahad Akbari the Student activities officer organise’s the London Varsity 2013.

2. Abdul-Ahad Akbari implements the overturn of all decisions taken on behalf of UCLU to cancel the London Varsity 2013.

The momentum we have built makes it impossible for the Union to keep ignoring us while they dismantle our events. We have forced them to see that the student body will not accept these cowardly cancellations quietly.

This is ridiculous. Varsity is like the best part of the whole year for most of us. Why are they trying to kill the spirit of the uni?
