Name: Stephen Warren on Jul 21, 2009Comments: Changing our market place into a modernised plaza and moving the Londonderry statue will destroy its unique character. A ridiculous idea from people who want to turn Durham into a clone of bland shopping centres designed by profiteering developers. We need to remove all of those quangos and councillors behind these proposals as soon as possible as they are wasting taxpayers money on unwanted schemes.Flag

Name: Valerie Warren on Jul 21, 2009Comments: I have lived in Durham for over 50 years and hate the idea of the market place being turned into a modern plaza. At the weekend all of the wooden seats were occupied by tourists and other visitors, a lot of them being quite elderly who would not be able to use the concrete seats because they do not have backrests. Surely these steps for seating will also be a safety hazard. If One North East are supporting this waste of money they clearly have too much taxpayers cash at their disposal and should have their funding reduced by a future government.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 21, 2009Comments: This statue should never be moved how are they going to change the old pictures of it with St Nicholas church in the background. It always has been on this spot and should never be removed. I only hope a curse was not put on it if tampered with.Flag
