The Petition

Whereas London, Ontario is home to 78,000 tons of toxic PCB contaminated soil – twice as much as all other cities in Canada combined,

Whereas PCB exposure is linked to an increased incidence of a multitude of illnesses including Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Disease, and may have caused the death and illness of hundreds of members of our community,

Whereas the Ontario Ministry of Environment found Westinghouse Canada Inc. (WCI) to be the primary cause of an environmental and health disaster by dumping PCBs into our community, and directly exposing WCI employees to PCBs for over 30 years, yet along with the City of London, absolved WCI of liability for their actions,

Whereas the citizens of Ontario, residents of London, and former employees of Westinghouse Canada Inc. deserve to know how London was contaminated, how their health may have been affected, and why the Ontario government is now going to spend $56,000,000 of taxpayer money to remove the contaminated soil, while Westinghouse has been made to pay only $700,000, and was commended for its “good corporate citizenship” by the Province,

Whereas we want our questions answered independently, transparently and honestly to ensure that the current situation is dealt with appropriately, and such a disaster is never allowed to happen again,

We, the undersigned, hereby call upon the Government of the Province of Ontario to establish a comprehensive Public Inquiry into PCB Contamination in London, Ontario.
