STOP CONSTRUCTION of CAFO NEXT TO HOMES, SCHOOLS, ETC (any sized Confined Animal Feeding Facilites without Neighbors Approval)

WASHINGTON COUNTY, INDIANA has been selected as a “Broiler hub” for about 180 + Confined Animal Facilities backed by Farbest Foods, Tyson and Perdue poultry operations. All three are trying to cut deals with Washington County; changing county regulations in turn for more county tax revenue. That means a facility (usually in groups of three) could start constuction near you. 180+ facilities to be placed in Washington County if Land Zoning becomes favorable for the Corporations pushing factory farms. Any qualifying neighbor could be awarded a factory farm facility whether the other neighbors want it or not. In my opinion, I do not believe this is the right direction for this county.

 

STOP CONSTRUCTION of all Factory Farms until Land Zoning meets approval by the property owners of Washington County. Farbest Foods, Perdue and Tyson have shown no consideration when locating newly constructed AFO / CFO / CAFO facilities next to Schools, Churches, Medical Offices, Lakes and Property Owners. The people of Washington County wish to have any sized AFO / CFO / CAFO facilities located a safer distance away from neighboring investments due to high concerns of Health Hazards and various Property damages. This includes any current construction that has not secured acceptance by its neighbors within a 1-1/2 Mile radius of its construction site.

 

I created some improved guidelines myself as a suggestion (Ideal Proposal): Below is an example guideline. The county land use proposal is about our land. Ultimately, all property owners must be the creators toward any changes of our Counties Zoning plans. Especially when Factory Farms pose harm to property and health to others living around it.

 

A) All property owners within a 1-1/2 mile radius are to be notified of a proposed AFO / CFO / CAFO facility regardless of facility size and requires 51% acceptance from said property owners before the start of construction. (Currently 1 mile radius and 51% for CAFO only)

 

B) Any sized AFO / CFO / CAFO Facilities must have a set back from property line with a distance of:

* 4,000 FT from a school or hospital (Currently 1,000 FT)

* 3,000 FT from a church or recreation facility (nothing current)

* 1,000 - 3,000 FT from a property owner depending on the appraised neighboring property value. (Currently 750 FT)

* 1,000 FT from a creek, fork, lake or river (nothing current)

 

C) Any sized AFO / CFO / CAFO must be placed on a flat construction site with no greater than a 3% grade decline throughout a 600' distance from the facilities outside perimeter. (nothing current)
