The Petition

The petition below will be sent to Galen G. Weston, the Executive Chairman of Loblaws,on October 20, 2006

Dear Mr. Weston,

We the undersigned implore you to reconsider the recent change in Loblaws policy regarding the sale of your discounted gift-cards.

Loblaw’s recent change in policy restricting the sale of your gift-cards exclusively to groups, who are registered charities, closes the door on this fundraising opportunity for the vast majority of our schools and non-profit groups.

Even for most of us who are registered charities, we simply do not have the necessary resources to run a gift card fundraiser. School and non-profit fundraisers are run by volunteers – NOT full-time paid employees. The administration of a gift-card fundraiser can require a small army of volunteers, where most schools and non-profit groups have a hard enough time finding one or two volunteers for a few hours a week.

We are well aware that Fundscrip is a for-profit company who keeps a percentage of the discount you provide to cover their costs. Without the services they provide, we simply cannot use Loblaws gift cards as a fundraiser.

Until such time as we can raise funds for our chosen school or non-profit group by purchasing Loblaws gift cards through the Fundscrip program we will express our disappointment with your company by shopping at your competitors and encouraging all of supporters to switch to one of FundScrip’s other participating grocers.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
