In today's world, the new generation, especially those of us in developed countries are ruled by consumerism and undoubtedly, the most prominent example of this is clothing. We judge others frequently on what they are wearing, so much so that bullying because of this is a major problem. Who benefits from this craze? Large corporations that are more than glad to feed the frenzy- corporations such as Nike, one of the largest clothing and footwear brands in the world. Nike, already making huge amounts of money because of the sheer demand of its products, will do anything to further increase their profits, even if it comes at a cost to others. The little known reality is that Nike is able to maximize its profits at the expense of its garment workers. These workers are mostly in poor, developing nations that don't have established labour laws and Nike takes full advantage of this. Workers, who are 90% women and can be children, spend long days in sweatshops (factories that violate over 2 labour laws) and receive an extremely low wage- so low that it is often not enough to even pay for their day to day expenses. This petition fights for the rights of these workers and allow them to atleast pay for basic necessities.
