Name: Jacob Mullis on Sep 25, 2012Comments: I would like to express my concern related to the closing of the dark branch trail and loss of this corridor. It was a vital trail to the experience of riding at little bennett. Further more I would like to see all trails at LB open to all users and not restricted t certain users. I have ridden mountainbikes at LB and beleive that openingtrails even close to the campgrounds is not concerning. A close study would be greenbrier state park where multi use trails run very close to the campgrounds without conflict. LB has a much greater potetial to attract more users if all trails were open and continued redevelopment continues. Jake Mullis MountainbikerFlag

Please consider restoring the Dark Branch to Western Piedmont connector it would make many people very happy to have it connected again. Thanks for the great trails! :)Flag

Name: Anonymous on Sep 25, 2012Comments: Add me to the list of those who encourage the county to find a way to re-establish to looping opportunities to the north part of Little Bennett via the Dark Branch Trail. Most trail visitors prefer loops. Offering loops allow travelers to experience new discoveries over the entirety of their visit. From a management perspective, loops and the options they provide greatly increase the carrying capacity of a trail system. Park staff has made great strides in transforming the county's trails into some of the best in the region. Clearly they are up to this task! Little Bennett is the jewel of the system. Lets make the extra effort to make it has good as it can be and show county residents all its beauty.Flag

We need more trails, not less - the more we have the less impact on ALL of the trails. We readily share the trails with hikers, bikers and bird watchers.Flag

Name: Ruth Anne Heilgeist on Oct 20, 2012Comments: As an endurance rider that involves training a horse to go 25 to 100 miles, the rolling terrain, hills and water crossings are invaluable teaching and training tools. I've been trailering my horses to Little Bennett at least once a month since January 2012. The park is heavily used by trail riders and I am sure there is considerable interest in opening the closed trails. I certainly would like to see the Dark Branch trail reopened. Another way to access Western Piedmont would also reduce repetitive traffic on Pine Grove and Timber Ridge Trail. Currently, without access to Western Piedmont via Dark Branch, riders, hikers and bikers travel twice (to and from the parking lot) on Pine Grove and Timber Ridge to access the Western Piedmont. Continuing the Dark Branch access to Western Piedmont would reduce the environmental pressure currently experienced on Pine Grove and Timber Ridge.Flag

Name: Matt Kendall on Oct 22, 2012Comments: I too was sad to see the old Dark Branch trail closed. I run on the trails of Little Bennett twice a week. This trail is indeed an important connection that has been lost. I never use the new Dark Branch trail to no-where. It would be awesome if it could be reconnected as suggested here (or in some similar way). Also, the trail from the Froggy Hollow trailhead parking lot on 121 to the Stony Brook trail was never replaced. This nice lot on 121 is underused and a bit of a dead end since its only got one trail leading out.Flag

Name: Maureen Horne on Oct 23, 2012Comments: While the new Dark Branch trail circling what many of my friends call The Turkey Field is a wonderful new trail, we do miss being able to get down from Dark Branch to Hyattstown Mill Road. When I was riding my horse this was a great loop to get from the trailer parking lot to Hyattstown Mill Road across the streams and back up Pine Grove. As I'm no longer riding, and hiking the park with my dog, it would still be nice to be able to make a larger circle. With that being said, I greatly appreciate all the work that is done in Little Bennett. It is a wonderful place.Flag

Name: Doris Rinehart on Nov 9, 2012Comments: I was extremely disappointed a couple of years back when Logger's trail was closed which gave us a 2nd crossing at Clarksburg Road and gave us more riding choices. Since another section of the Dark Branch trail has been closed, riding a loop is just about impossible. It makes riding at Little Bennet much less of a pleasure and crams everyone riding onto fewer trails. With loops and connectivity all the users can spread out and really enjoy the park. I really detest riding out on a trail and turning around and riding back-I really enjoy being able to make a different ride everytime I go to the park.Flag

Name: Mark Bandak on Jan 25, 2013Comments: I have been hiking Little Bennett since before it joined the MNCPPC system. Used to drive on the old Hyattstown Mill Road before this became a park. So, for over 20 years now I've been a park user; I don't avail myself of many other county services, but the park system is one of those that I do utilize on a regular basis. In the early years; my dog and I were there 7/365; with age and my current dogs; we do 4 days per week, every week of the year; regardless of weather conditions. As noted by other posters; this trail was the only meaningful connection between the upper horse parking lot (near the maintenance shop) to the old Hyattstown Mill Road (or whatever they are calling it these days). Thanks for at least considering this. Apologies for the late 'signature' - just heard about this about a week ago.Flag

Name: Terry Lamstra on Jun 3, 2013Comments: The park is my main place to ride. I have no access to trails except by trailering to them. The park has been a main stay for over 25 years! I would like to see as many trails as possible opened or reopened and be able to connect up to other trails i the area. We used to go exploring and know its possible to get over near Black Hills Park and Sugarloaf Mounting. But the growth in the area in past years has made it too dangerous without approved trail routes. This is my hobby like riding a bike is to a cyclist! Share the space. Thank youFlag
