This petition is for The Trane Studio to have its liquor license reinstated by the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario), April 30, 2011

It has been more than 9 months since the Trane Studio submitted an application for a liquor license to the AGCO (July, 2010). Ordinarily, this would be an eight week process when an establishment complies fully with the application process.

The Trane has complied with the requirements and expectations of the AGCO. All the necessary documents have been submitted in a timely manner. All suggestions and demands have been addressed and problems rectified to the satisfaction of all governing bodies.
The hearing to address our request for reinstatement has been set for June 28, 2011.  We hope to use this petition to move the hearing for reinstatement forward towards an early resolution.

The future of the Trane Studio is being gravely jeopardized daily by the current delay. As supporters and participants of the Trane Studio, you know that within a span of 8 years we have become a critical venue in Toronto.  The Trane is actually known and respected throughout the Province, the rest of Canada and through International connections and commitments. Early this year the Trane was selected as one of the “world’s best” venue for live jazz by DownBeat magazine.

The Trane has developed a diverse and loyal following over the years. It is known and appreciated as a quality venue for music, art, menus and beverages. Its ambience is welcoming, safe and consistent. We are clearly, by any standards, not a “high risk” venue.

The premises are monitored respectfully by staff; we do not serve underage clients; and we do not provide an overcrowded space. There has never been a violent incident within the premises and all safety rules and regulations have been and continue to be adhered to by the management. No one has ever reported a single violent incident on public or private property in regard to the Trane Studio. The performance schedules are brilliant and innovative. The menu and the ambience are outstanding as always.

Our friends, clients, performers and artists come from local neighborhoods as well as diverse areas of the GTA. We welcome visitors from an international mix of countries and continents. As well as providing a stage for more than 20,000 musicians, thousands of artists, poets, writers and dancers, the Trane Studio has hosted hundreds of events for charities and not for profit agencies. We are an elegant and affordable venue for private and special occasions such as birthdays, staff parties, weddings and bar mitzvahs.

The reality for the Trane Studio is that good will, loyalty, excellence and filling a huge cultural need will not keep the Trane in business.  While we ask for and respect and value your patience with our uncertain status, we have most unfortunately arrived at a position where our future is precarious and unpredictable, at best.

We believe we deserve better than this.  Please join us by signing this petition requesting a liquor license reinstatement for the Trane Studio at the earliest possible date.

We need your support and your involvement, in order for the doors of The Trane to remain open. We have been doing our best to hold on by ourselves, but we do need a community support to help us over this critical and challenging time.
