Comments: There was yet another accident a wreck a day after the 16 year old died on 6/23. I am not quite sure town of cary is keeping a proper count. of wrecks (5 reqd per year to put a light!). In addition, there is a light needed at Cary Glen + Carpenter firestation road as well.

Comments: As Cary resident leaving in close proximity to this intersection for the past 4+years, I have witness tremendous increase in commercial & residential traffic on both Green Level to Durham Road & Cary Glen Boulevard. Fueled by rapid increase in educational, commercial & residential development, crossing this high traffic/low visibility intersection safely has become a challenge. It was disheartening to see this comment by Town of Cary Traffic Department in the local WRAL news report, "Town of Cary traffic engineers said the intersection does not qualify for a light. A location must have a high traffic volume and at least five wrecks in a 12 month period to warrant a light. The wreck that claimed Kailee Birdsong’s life was the second at Greenlevel to Durham Road and Cary Glen Boulevard in a year." When resident safety is relegated to reactive action triggered only by minimum number of accidents with potential consequences such as loss of life is reckless at best. I would sincerely urge you to reconsider this position and work towards implementing a signal at this intersection without further delay. Further it would be prudent to conduct a comprehensive review of current procedures for signal light requests as a proactive measure to improve traffic safety for an increasing number of Cary residents.

Comments: I and my children have had numerous problems crossing this intersection. The speed limit is not enforced on this road and no one slows down for pedestrians. A traffic light is much needed.

Comments: I live in Weldon Ridge right on the other side of Cary Park where this intersection is. I drive this everyday and have had near misses myself. One death is far too many when there is a simple fix.

Comments: The visibility in this intersection is dangerously limited and the school and town center openings have increased the traffic to the point that a light is most definitely needed.

Comments: I live in west Cary (Arbor at Weldon Ridge) and drive through this intersection 10+ times per week. The intersection is so wide and is very dangerous. There is much traffic in the intersection (Cary Park Shopping Center is here). Also, because the intersection is a uphill for Green Level to Durham road, it is very hard to foresee the traffic coming from Green Level to Durham road. I have lived in RTP for 5 years. And I haven’t seen the second intersection in RTP like this one that doesn’t have a traffic light.

Comments: While it so very unfortunate that is has taken the targic loss of a young girls life to get this petition started- please make no mistake that this is needed. We are not over reacting, this is a DANGEROUS intersection! Regardless that there is a light at Carpenter Firestation, the stretch of road all along Green level is too far a stretch to go without a signal. The rise in the road limits your sight distance- Please listen to the residents who drive these roads day in and day out. Thank you.
