Name: Eleanor Smith on Jun 13, 2007Comments: The costs of not constructing basic access are high--expensive retrofits, often at public expense; isolation of people who develop disabilities; increased institutionalization of people who can't go home from the hospital because of barriers in their homes. Ordinances are necessary to change the status quo.Flag

Name: Edward Steinfeld on Jun 13, 2007Comments: Much research supports the idea of providing basic home design for lifetime living. Not enacting such an ordinance results in an enormous cost to society as well as a burden to individual hoemowners.Flag

Name: Eleanor Smith on Aug 1, 2007Comments: Basic low cost access in virtually ALL new homes is a change that is needed. We're all paying a price in terms of increased falls, public funds for renovations as people age, increased institutionalization when people can't come home from the hospital, etc.Flag

Name: Kafi & Joseph Amico on Aug 17, 2007Comments: Aloha, My concern is not just about new honme buyers but for expanding families. My husband and I got married 2 years ago and we now have 2 children living in a condo and we are finding it quite expensive to move into a house even if we sold our condo. My husband has been a resident of Maui for 20 years and has worked for the state for 15 years. There should also be some affordable housing for reasidents that already own property and have a growing family.Flag
