Czech mayor from Ostrava, Liana Janackova is a dangerous racist who sends very harmful signals into Czech society by targeting Roma. (Janackova is no longer a senator, see the update here: http://romea.cz/english/index.php?id=detail&detail=2007_1981)

Last week, local and senate elections took place in the Czech Republic. In the scope of her campaign, she was handing out leaflets: a packet of matches was attached to each of them. Janackova claimed she thought "the packet of matches was a nice present to her voters which they would gladly keep."

Ostrava lies not far from Vitkov where the arson attack, which has left the one-year-old Natalka burnt on 80 per cent of her body (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11582589) took place last year; in fact, another arson attack took place in the Ostrava city borough for which Janackova is responsible.

In the past, she became infamous for offering to give the Roma money to leave the Czech Republic for Canada, or for saying (on the record) that she is a racist and would throw dynamite into Romani neighbourhoods (Mrs Janáčková said that she thought local Roma should be rounded up and kept behind an electric fence, and blown up with dynamite, www.radio.cz/en/section/curraffrs/senator-accused-of-defamation-retains-political-immunity).

Please, sign this petition and show the Czech government that racist politicians are unacceptable and must be held accountable!
