Name: Anonymous on Jan 19, 2013Comments: While not affected by any decision, living outside the area, I am concerned about the way the decision could be implemented without sufficient consultation. It seems the majority of all medical staff affected by the closure accept there is a need for change and are willing to negotiate the best way forward. Closure is not supported on any grounds. I believe the opinions of knowledgable professional people who are on the 'front line' should be taken into account before any radical decision is made based on mythical and idealistic statistics. This is relevant not only for Lewisham Hospital, but any circumstance which faces drastic and irreversible actions.Flag

Name: Buffy Lloyd on Jan 19, 2013Comments: I am a 34 year old deputy head teacher at a local challenging primary school. I have a blood disorder and have been monitored by Lewisham hospital since I was 13. My blood disorder is not serious, but I have always known that there could be complications if I were to give birth. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few years, and are about to begin a cycle of IVF funded by the NHS. Our difficulties are nothng to do with my blood disorder but I have been advised that, should I fall pregnant, I would be best suited to Lewisham hospital for maternity care and to give birth as they will have the expertise of the haematology dept at hand to advise should it be necessary. My family and I have always been impressed by the efficiency of Lewsham hospital and it seems ludicrous to be considering a closure. Given my personal situation, it could effect the success rates of my (hoepfully) forthcoming pregnancy, treatment for which is already costing the NHS a large sum. I work tirelessly for the disadvantaged community i serve in my job. One of the reasons for our complications in conceiving is my age and possibly the stress of my job. My loyalty and dedicatin to the education and improving the life chances of pupils who, often, have disorganised support from their families has lead to the later start for my husband and I to try for a family. I am hugely grateful to the NHS for the opportunity for IVF at this stage, but also feel that it is justified given the impact serving the state has on my life. I feel that ths closure would result in a situation whereby the sage is giving with one and and taking away with the other - giving hope, but making it incredibly difficult for tht hope to become a reality, and therefore, a farce.Flag

Surely there must be another option and letting a community down in such a dangerous way.Flag

I am appalled that a successful hospital serving its local community well should be made to pay for the errors of other unrelated Trusts. Closure of Lewisham's A&E and Maternity units will impact heavily on the local community.Flag

Another example of what is to come while this government is in power I fear.Flag
