Name: Jean And John Brooman on Jan 14, 2013Comments: Is the government seriously expecting emergency services to be carried out at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich when people are living in the Lewisham area? They could be dead by the time they arrive there and also on the News yesterday QE was listed as one of the hospitals failing because of lack of staff and standards of care dropping! The NHS is losing millions but they spend millions on a brand new A & E only to close it shortly afterwards! I thought Thatcher was bad enough trying to ruin the NHS but this government have completely lost their marbles.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 14, 2013Comments: It's astonishing that such a decision is being made. Clearly no Lewisham resident would be in agreement with it. It's just wrong that Lewisham's residents should be left with no A&E or maternity service. I think a full investigation should be made into who made the recommendation that the three 'failing' trusts should borrow huge amounts of money at what must be exorbitant interest rates, who is benefitting from the payments being made, who benefitted from the contracts issued. I'd be very interested to see these figures. It's utterly negligent that an NHS provider is recommended to take out vast loans with colossal interest rates - are the loan amounts, interest rates and providers available for public viewing anywhere?Flag

Name: Rebecca Haywood on Jan 14, 2013Comments: My second son was born there and I've used the A&E a number of times. WHen my son was born it meant my partner and daughter could visit us which would have been much harder if they had to travel further away. Another time my daughter had pneumonia and showing signs of blood poisoning was rushed in last Christmas. We drove her there quickly so not to burden the ambulance and we had to stay in for a number of days and again my partner and son could visit my daughter which was wonderful for her. I don't drive and managed to get a bus there with my son in the pushchair when my son hurt his foot and had to have x-rays. Another time when my son had bronchiolitis at 6 months and not breathing properly not to get an ambulance as would be faster to get a cab which I was able to do as near by, no way would that be possible if further away. Please do not close this hospital it is a lifeline literally for the community of Lewisham.Flag
