If certain banks were bailed out in the past, the hospitals should be protected all the more.Flag

Name: Terry McCahey on Jan 13, 2013Comments: Disgraceful that a well-run hospital/trust should pay the price for one which couldn't cope with their own issues. Queen Elizabeth is my local hospital, but there needs to be another way to solve this. I would suggest seconding Lewisham managers, but feel the PFI deal at QE & others in our Trust would be beyond anyone.Flag

Name: David Lister on Jan 13, 2013Comments: This may make financial sense in the short term, but the impact on queen Elizabeth A&E will mean significant investment is required. for a trust already floundering, where will this investment come from? One assumes the additional income from taking lewisham patients will need to go towards paying debts so residents will be faced with a severly below requirement emergency acute service - a dangerous situation to be in. Especially when the department will need to cover those who are well over 30 minutes drive away in standard conditions - heart attack mortality will surely rise. This feels like a bad decision financially and socially in through medium to long term.Flag

The decision to close Lewisham A&E is appalling and the added time to get patients from the Lewisham area to Woolwich could have serious implications.Flag
