Name: Nigel Scales on Dec 13, 2012Comments: The Administrator is flying in the case of free market principles - Lewisham has been well-managed and yet is not reaping the benefit. It's equivalent to telling Audi to turn over their production lines to the old Trabant car company because it was failing! On a practical level, it makes A&E much less accessible - currently I have the option of driving to the hospital in under 5 minutes or taking 3 buses from a stop within 200 metres of home - with 2 more options by walking a few hundred metres. Only one of the buses goes to Woolwich, journey time would be much longer and even a car journey would take significantly longer, especially in rush hour - a significant reduction in service availability and likely to put more pressure on ambulance services.Flag

Name: Salome Lofters on Dec 13, 2012Comments: I have a son who has been seen to at A&E in Lewisham. It is a great hospital and by closing the A&E people will die on transit to further away hospital. I also had and asthma attack driving near the hospital, luckly enough i drove in and the A&E staff save my life. It would have been detremental if the A&E wasn't there. So please do not shut Lewisham A&E as the residents need it. Thank youFlag

Name: Pam Schweitzer on Dec 13, 2012Comments: Everyone I talk to round here is really frightened by the proposal to shut Lewisham A&E, maternity unit, etc. We know the area well and also know how long it would take to travel to the suggested alternatives. Money has been spent making Lewisham's facilities very well able to respond quickly and efffectively to most mediacl eventualities. We are not confident that that surrendering this facility in favour of more distant and less developed facilities, which would be likely to crack under the additional strain in any case, is in the best interests of local people. This feels like punishing the citizens of Lewisham for something which is not their fault and radically reducing their access to emergency and maternity services. Please urge the government to rethink what has to be a retrograde step before it is too late.Flag

Name: Donna Combe on Dec 13, 2012Comments: As a qualified Nurse, I believe it would be dangerous & bad practice medically to close down either of these vital services to our community. Lewisham is an extremely busy well-used service & apart from anything else financially it is ridiculous to spend millions on a new obstetric unit & refurb of A&E only to then close it down in less than a year! we NEED both desperately in this area. Dont make Lewisham pay the price for PFI when they actually have managed their money well & are in benefit, people who will suffer SERIOUSLY are the local community, & Mothers & babies, as good Maternity Units are hard to find & Lewisham is one of the best in London! There are other more creative, less damaging ways to find a way to pay these debts.Flag

Lewisham is too big a community and geographically centred to have its A&E diverted to a new resource several miles away. The maternity wing has just been refurbished. Reduce the staff numbers if we ned to make cuts.Flag
