Name: Barry Ewing on Dec 12, 2012Comments: I was dismayed to learn of the proposals for Lewisham hospital and believe that lives will be lost if it goes ahead. If additional funds are needed from central government to bail out the health trust that has failed then this money should be made available from central government reserves. The solution that has been proposed is grossly unfair to the hospital staff and residents of Lewisham borough.Flag

Name: Michael Glegg on Dec 12, 2012Comments: It makes no sense to close down Lewisham Hospital's A&E service and maternity services. There is a baby boom in SE London - all the primary schools have had funding to increase their building and entry intake - there is obviously the demand and need for maternity and A&E services in close proximity.Flag

Name: Lucy Curnow on Dec 12, 2012Comments: I think it would be tragic to close Lewisham A&E or maternity units. As someone who would like to have a family soon, I would be very nervous at the thought of having to travel so far to another maternity unit that would probably be vastly overcrowded. I have used Lewisham hospital, and had a very positive experience of it. However, there are always people there needing attention, and I cannot imagine how they would all be accommodated in other hospitals should it close. I believe services and care would be severely compromised if this happened. It would also be a great shame and a waste when we consider how much money has been spent to make Lewisham such a great hospital. With regard to privatising and amalgamating-it is a dangerous and slippery slope, and it NEVER works.Flag

Name: Richard Platt on Dec 12, 2012Comments: I am dismayed at the proposed scaling down of services at Lewisham Hospital. The NHS provides one of the world's leading healthcare services and its A&E units are magnificent in every aspect. To close one of the best in London is quite ludicrous. If it's a question of finding more money to keep it going, then this must be done. I have had occasion to benefit from the service and I can attest to its excellence. I, for one, would gladly pay a small surcharge on my taxes to keep this free life-saving facility going in its present location, rather than see it close. Richard PlattFlag
