I am a local resident and also a member of staff and know that lewisham hospital has been servng its community to a high level for a very long time. If these planned closures go ahead it will just be the beginning of the dismantling and destruction of the NHS the tories have been angling for for a long time. Name: Emily Ward-Robinson on Jan 29, 2013Comments: I have worked in the A&E departments - both adult and paediatric - for 15 years to date. The service provided by the children's A&E department in particular is praised far and wide and has been compared to some of the more widely known dedicated paediatric A&E departments (of which there are not many) nationally. I simply cannot believe the decision to close this department will be better for the patients and their families in the next few years. I understand that we need to look to the future but we should be doing this by supporting those who provide excellent care, not destroying these services.What is the nature of your work?: NurseFlag
