Let it be known that the signers of this petition are protesting the recent termination of Lew Grant as the Glenwood Springs Community Center Ice Rink Coordinator.

Lew’s performance as the manager of the rink was overwhelmingly respected by the Glenwood Springs ice hockey community. We have all observed Lew’s customer-centric attitude throughout the years. Lew was always proactive in training personnel, solving problems, listening to customer suggestions, accommodating requests, creating dialogue, and going the extra mile to make it happen. Lew took pride in his work, and was the face of the Glenwood Ice Rink to many in the Roaring Fork Valley. His dismissal is a loss for the taxpayers of Glenwood Springs.

Without question, Lew’s competency as rink manager outweighed any potential “policy and procedure” shortcomings, which were apparently the reason for his termination. You find a way to work with a rink manager whose primary objective is the meticulous daily operation and maintenance of the facility and concern for patron satisfaction. At the end of the day, isn’t that what REALLY matters? The Community Center could use more Lew Grants.

We are requesting the City of Glenwood Springs review the sequence of events along with the policies and procedures that lead to Lew’s dismissal. At a minimum, he deserves a hearing after the review, and potential reinstatement as a result of the hearing.
